The iconic hotel opened its doors in 1963 as the first major international hotel in Greece. A hub of the Athenian society, the 506-room luxury hotel will be turned into a Conrad Hotel with 280 rooms and 50 branded residences by Conrad and Waldorf Astoria. Both brands are also part of the Hilton family. The newly renovated hotel (at a cost of 130€M, and €145M for the property acquisition) is scheduled to reopen in 2024.

Alongside the luxury hotel and premium private residences, the Conrad Athens will feature a private lifestyle members’ club, multiple culinary and entertainment venues, curated shopping as well as leisure and wellness experiences.

The original modernist hotel was designed by a team of architects including Emmanuel Vourekas, Prokopis Vasileiadis, Anthony Georgiades and Spyro Staikos. Artist Yiannis Moralis, inspired by Greek themes, designed the reliefs of the building’s façade. Conrad Hilton (name giver of the new hotel) was present at the opening ceremony, plus Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, singer Frank Sinatra, director Ingmar Bergman and actor Anthony Quinn. In 2003, the hotel was renovated anticipating the 2004 Olympic Games and a new seven-storey northern wing was added.
